Our exercise physiology positions & approach

  • Exercise is medicine. EPs understand what to prescribe for an individual’s condition, preferences and circumstances.
  • Every physical task or goal can be broken down into its components so each can be prioritized and prepared for.
  • “Move it or lose it” is real – we address “movement hesitation” and skills, abilities and components of ‘fitness’ that are typically lost, reduced or neglected with age.
  • Strength is a foundation – to quote strength coaching guru Mark Rippetoe, “Stronger people are harder to kill and more useful in general”. That is, physical strength improves resilience against illness and injury, while enhancing functional capability.
  • We see the whole person – that is, we consider the multiple factors that promote either health & wellness or disease.
  • Exercise can be used for mental health and function, just as it is for physical health.
  • For most physical issues and limitations, there is a workaround where some exercise can still be performed.
  • Education is paramount – when you understand your mind and body, and why you are doing the exercise you have been set, then you will be more motivated to do that exercise.
  • It’s never too late to start. Exercise can improve your quality of life at any age.
  • Our goal is not to make clients reliant on us. We want you to improve your knowledge, competence and confidence so that you can do the things you want and need to do, and continue doing them to an older age.
